Overall health, well-being and quality of life before medical cannabis
Tourettes is like a sneeze. Once you feel it coming it’s better to let it out then to hold it in because if you hold it in you feel irritated or even pain.
And sometimes you feel like you embarrass everyone around you. You feel like your friends don’t want to be around because you clear your throat, or make strange noises. You blink a lot or squirm.
These feelings of isolation and embarrassment can lead to severe depression and social anxiety.

If I could write a letter to 16 year old me I would tell her to seriously research this and try it sooner. My life is so much better. I feel like I can finally go out and live my life.
I don't know where I would be right now if it was for medical cannabis.

Path to cannabis
I broke down one day after work saying I just couldn’t handle it. My Tourettes had been acting up and I was exhausted and in pain because of it. My sister was a nurse and she suggested I try using medical marijuana.
I’d smoked weed before, in high school at parties. But I never thought it would help me for my Tourettes. I always thought medicinal cannabis was for Cancer patients or people who needed physical therapies.
I asked around a couple friends and one of them happily supplied me with a joint. And another one supplied me with a medical marijuana edible they had gotten from a dispensary.
I found both smoking and ingesting it helped. Ingesting it helped a lot with the body pain and exhaustion I felt after a bad day of my Tourettes acting up.
Smoking I found helped me right away to calm down. Especially if my anxiety was also acting up.
How Cannabis has had an impact on patient's day to day life
I can get up, go to the gym and not feel like I'm embarrassing myself in public.
I still get tics, they'll never go away but they're manageable and I no longer experience pain from them.

Additional info about discontinued medication
I am no longer on any prescription medication.
My anxiety still acts up from time to time but it's all about learning to identify and manage it. I've found CBD helps me every day with my anxiety, and I don't get stoned from it! I can go to work and live my life.
